NFL defensive back Richard Sherman has launched a brand new fantasy sports company before the start of the 2018 regular season. It is called Daily Number and its selling point is that it makes it easier for casual fans to play daily fantasy sports.
Sherman is launching his new platform in 23 states along with distributing a clever YouTube video where he takes jabs at FanDuel and DraftKings by calling them “FanTool” and “DraftClowns.”
There are no salary caps and no actual opponents. Instead, users select their degree of difficult and potential prize pool by picking a combination of players to beat a pre-set target score. That target score is referred to as the Daily Number.
“I’ve been pitched numerous DFS opportunities, but nothing has even come close to comparing to Daily Number,” says Sherman. “I’m extremely excited to be a founding partner and look forward to playing an active role in helping the company grow during this very dynamic time in our industry.”
Sherman’s co-founder is Tom McAuley, who founded venture capital-backed sports media company Hubstar. That company’s Realtime Brackets brand has partnered with CBS Interative, SB Nation and Sporting News and received sponsorships from Reese’s and 5-hour Energy.
