The Sports Biz was created in August 2018 as a website that strictly focuses on the business of sports. Created by Darren Heitner, The Sports Biz has a key focus of sharing insight on the intersection between sports and money.

Common topics of discussion include sports lawsuits/disputes, transactions and deal making, esports (competitive video game play), sports betting, fantasy sports developments and sporting events.

Heitner formerly was a lead contributor focusing on the business of sports at Forbes, where he served in such a capacity for more than six years. He also spent over three years as a columnist at Inc. Magazine, writing articles more closely oriented to entrepreneurism in sports. In 2005, Heitner founded Sports Agent Blog, a niche publication that spreads news and information about the sports agent industry.

In 2010, Heitner became licensed to practice law and in 2014, he created his own law firm, HEITNER LEGAL, P.L.L.C., which services clients with contract issues, intellectual property, family law, sports and entertainment and additional areas.

Heitner is also the author of a Sports Law treatise published by the American Bar Association titled, How to Play the Game: What Every Sports Attorney Needs to Know. A second edition of the book was published in 2018.
