DraftKings Becomes The 1st To Deliver A Mobile Sportsbook App In New Jersey

The Breakdown

  • DraftKings has become the 1st company to offer legal online and mobile sports betting in New Jersey.
  • It took DraftKings roughly 1 year to create its mobile sportsbook application.
  • Individuals in New Jersey will be able to place live in-game bets on major and niche U.S. and international sports.
  • The sportsbook app allows users to toggle between the making sports bets and updating their fantasy lineups.

Some Color

This is a big win for DraftKings, because it becomes the very 1st operator to launch a mobile app in New Jersey, beating MGM to the punch even though it said that it would be 1st in the Garden State. DraftKings decided long ago that it would shift resources to focus on owning the sports betting market and, despite not making headlines for major partnerships (i.e. MGM with the NBA) or M&A (i.e. FanDuel with Paddy Power Betfair), DraftKings is now in the driver’s seat, at least in New Jersey.

The Quote

“I am excited to begin this new chapter in our story by officially launching what I believe to be the most innovative, mobile sports betting product in the U.S. We have put immense thought and significant resources behind the development of DraftKings Sportsbook and I’m confident that sports fans in New Jersey will enjoy using it to make the experience of watching the games even more interesting and thrilling.” – Jason Robins, DraftKings CEO.
